Chemical Hygiene Plan and Biological Safety
Guide
The current regulatory requirements provide that each research
facility that handles hazardous chemicals
and/or biologicals must draft and adopt, in
a written form, comprehensive Chemical Hygiene
Manual and Biological Safety Guide or equivalent
documents. Usually, the Chemical Hygiene Manual
and/or the Biological Safety Guide are developed
in cooperation with the client's Laboratory
Safety Committee, and take into account the
unique needs and circumstances of each client
while staying within the generally uniform
boundaries of the regulatory requirements.
PHP will develop and implement a comprehensive
Chemical Hygiene Plan and Biological Safety
Guide which will serve as a general guide
for handling hazardous chemicals in the laboratory
and establish basic principles for laboratory
procedures, equipment and work practices.
The manuals will also describe the safeguards
for protecting employees from chemical and
biological hazards in a laboratory environment.
It will serve to minimize potential occupational
exposure to hazardous chemicals, infectious
microorganisms, or other potentially infectious
materials.
